misc.
writing
I have written in many forms, from autobiography and biography to short stories to text adventures. Most of these projects cannot be found in public and have mostly been abandoned, although I am still actively revising a large quantity of poetry. Most of my public writing can be found in the form of blogs, which can be found on this site and MIT Admissions.
My senior thesis, running away, running towards, is a collection of sestinas exploring the feelings of love and loss that come with growing up. You can find it on DSpace@MIT.
theatre in translation
I am interested in the practice of theatre in translation, both in the form of surtitling and in regards to process of translation itself. To that end, I served as the subtitles manager for Wuming Theatre Club’s Fall 2023 production of Bus Stop / 车站 by Gao Xingjian / 高行健, with adaptations from the translation by Shiao-Ling Yu; I also did translations for Wuming Theatre Club’s Fall 2024 production consisting of three short plays.
I also translated A Doll’s House / 玩偶之家, a short play written in Chinese by Zhang Xian / 张献, as part of 21M.716 (Play Translation and Cultural Transmission). This translation was performed in a partial staged reading at MIT, directed by me, which was the world premiere of the piece in any language.
misc. misc.
If you stick around theatre for long enough, you will eventually find yourself acting. I played Underling in Next Act’s 2022 production of The Drowsy Chaperone. I also co-directed the student production of Remembering Her, and directed the staged reading of the translation in the previous section of this page. Neither of these activities are my deepest loves, but it is not impossible that I will return to them some day.
